FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic modality that allows us to access our conscious and subconscious minds at the same time. This dual-mind access allows us to remain in control while we identify, sort out, and let go of deep thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors that are no longer serving us. As we experience life, we form core beliefs that help us survive in the moment, but these beliefs can often become a hindrance as we grow out of the circumstances that led to them. By connecting with the different parts of our selves and understanding what healthy needs we have been trying to meet in unhealthy ways, we can liberate ourselves from destructive patterns and benefit from the wisdom inherent in those once-painful experiences.
Who Can Benefit from Hypnotherapy?
I primarily help women who are ready to be free of anxious thoughts and feelings, postpartum difficulties, low self-esteem, and unresolved grief. The process though, is limitless. When a thought signal is received in the brain, the brain sends a signal to the body, the body then exhibits a behavior or symptom. As adjusting the thoughts often adjusts the symptoms, clinical Hypnotherapy can help with almost any place you may be feeling stuck.
What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?
It's a little bit different for everybody, but most people describe it as being peacefully aware, between awake and asleep. It's as if the body is asleep but the mind is clear and connected. We naturally move through the stages of trance whenever we fall asleep or wake up.
Do You Put People in Trance?
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It works based on suggestions, and since we have sole power over our own minds, we get to accept and reject any suggestion. Some people achieve this state of consciousness easily, while others may need a little more time and practice. I've never had a client who was unable to reach the ideal state of trance for clinical work.
How Does Hypnosis Work Online vs. Face-to-Face?
As long as I can see and hear you, the process is exactly the same whether we're meeting online or in person. All you need to do is prop up your phone or other device so that your face and upper body are visible. This enables me to detect micro-expressions that provide important context as we work.
Someone Tried to Hypnotize Me Once; Why Didn't it Work?
If a suggestion is rejected, it will have no power in the mind of the individual. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so, generally speaking, if one does not wish to accept the suggestion there will be no effect. If a suggestion is accepted, the mind will make it true. I like to teach my clients to be mindful of the suggestions they do want and to reject that which is not helpful.
Do You Accept Insurance?
My practice is self-pay. However, I do have clients who request invoices and receive reimbursement from clerical leaders. You can also check with your benefits administrator to see if your FSA or HSA can reimburse Hypnotherapy expenses.
How Can I Learn More?
No Bad Parts by Richard C Schwartz, and The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton are my favorite books for providing additional context for this process. Additionally, feel free to read my Client Stories, and/or schedule a free consultation with me. There are other similar modalities such as NLP for behavior modification or EMDR and ART for trauma recovery. Healing comes in many ways and there is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I am confident you will be drawn to what will work best for you and at the best time.
